Hudson's Funeral Home began its tradition of funeral service in Lander, in July of 1966. At that time, Butch and Diane Hudson and business partner, Dana Sims, rented the vacated Holy Rosary Catholic Church at Third and Garfield Streets, to begin the business. With the help of family and friends, pews were built and partition walls were constructed in the church that now served as a funeral home.
In the fall of 1969, construction of a new facility, the current Hudson's Funeral Home, was completed. Noted for its glass-filled, clerestory design, and framed in massive natural stone, the chapel area is one of the building's most remarkable features. Over the years, several remodeling upgrades have been made to the facility to reflect the style and presentation preferences of today's families. Most recently in 2006-2006 the firm redecorated with new carpet, paint, wall hangings and furniture.
In the fall of 1985, after the untimely death of the funeral director in Big Piney, the Hudson's began construction of Hudson's Funeral Home, Chapel of the Pines in Pinedale, WY. The dedication and grand opening was held in February of 1986.
For many years, the Hudson's served the funeral needs of the Lander and Pinedale communities and the surrounding areas. They were joined in business by their son, Nicholas, also a licensed funeral director, and were honored to serve families from both locations. In 2000, the firms were purchased by Thomas Vertin, a third-generation funeral director, while Butch and Diane Hudson continued to manage the funeral homes. After their retirement, Nick began managing the businesses, working with licensed funeral directors Tadd Curtin, Curt Covill and Bob Henry. In 2005, Curt Covill purchased the Pinedale location from Thomas Vertin and most recently, in 2007, Nick pursued another career with the Fire Department.
Today, Hudson's Funeral Home is managed by long-time funeral directors, Dalton Sanders and Dominick J. Weigel, Jr. Dalton and Dominick, along with their support staff, are committed to providing you and your family with meaningful ceremonies to help memorialize your loved one.
At Hudson's Funeral Home, we are honored to have earned the trust and confidence placed in us by those that we serve. We are proud to continue the traditions of service that began with the Hudson family, and we pledge to continue our commitment to families and members of our communities far into the future.
