Obituary for Donald "Don" Lee Hessling

Donald Lee Hessling, a mountain of a man, of Hudson Wyoming, rode across the canyon on June 19, 2018’. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, June 25th, at 10a.m. at Hudson’s Funeral Home, 680 Mount Hope in Lander, Wyoming. Following, a graveside service will be held in Hudson, and a dinner will be held at the Town Hall in Hudson.

Don was born April 21, 1920 to Alice and Ferd Hessling. A few hours after his birth, the mother God blessed him with died. Edith Malcom, Alice’s sister rode a train from Nebraska to Sheridan Wyoming. For the first month of his life, Edith would stay up at night rocking Him. Ferd Hessling gave Edith and Charlie Malcom permission to raise Don. Ferd Hessling and the Malcom’s gave him numerous siblings for which he always felt loved and accepted by all.

A WWll Veteran on the USS Heridan, rancher, farmer, logger, brick mason, wrangler and outfitter, layman Pastor and friend. GOD blessed him with 98 years of life and work. Don is packing a new string up there with the saints of old. Riding a soft mouthed horse taking in the scenery. A legacy and example of contentment in CHRIST no matter your physical or financial stead.

In 1937 he met the love of his life. Audrey Swaim when she came to the ranch as a cook. They married January 20, 1938 and from that union five children were born.

Preceding him in death was his wife of 72 years Audrey, daughter Donnis Lavonda, son Gary Lee, and one great grandson Aaron James, seven brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are sons Victor and Merl Hessling and daughter Angela McWain and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. You rode well good and faithful servant. Will surely miss that hearty laugh!
