Obituary for Ervin "Shorty" Wayne Clark

Ervin Wayne “Shorty” Clark died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, April 8th, 2018 at the age of 90.

A celebration of life service will be held at United Baptist Church 1201 E. Pershing Ave. in Riverton on Saturday, April 21st at 2:00 pm. A meal will be provided following the service.

Ervin was born in Casper and spent many of his early years there and on the ranch west of Kaycee. In 1946 he joined the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Spangler (DE696.) He was honorably discharged in 1948 and received the WWII Victory Medal. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned to the Casper area where he competed in rodeos, raised a lot of heck, married Ida Phillips and started a family. They were married for 9 years.

After returning to Casper, Ervin joined the Iron Workers Local #454. In 1979, after 37 years, he retired from the Iron Workers, and spent many more years travelling and working all over the country alongside and employing many of his family members including his sons and grandchildren.

When work slowed in the Wyoming area, he “boomed” out to California where he met the love of his life Frances Doris Lee. They were married on May 25th, 1968. The family moved back to Casper that year and then settled in the Fremont County area in 1979. They spent the remainder of their lives constantly involved with the raising of kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews, along with anyone who needed a “dad or mom”.

Ervin loved his horses, mountain pack trips, hunting & fishing, and spending time in the outdoors. He often did what he loved with those he loved. He also enjoyed building things out of metal using his knowledge and talents as a welder to give back or help others.
In the early 1980’s Ervin accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior and was a faithful man of God right up to his passing.

Ervin and Frances served with the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, most notably in the floods of Grand Forks North Dakota in 1997 as well as in New York following 9/11, helping to feed and comfort the cleanup crews.

Ervin’s greatest joy came from being with family and friends, his church family & very often with the people at the Trailhead Restaurant in Riverton where he and “momma” liked to eat on a regular basis.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Margaret; wife, Frances Doris Clark; son, Donald Wayne Clark; sisters, Cleah Colemen, Viola Brummet grandchildren, Joey Clark and Brandi Clark; great-grandchildren, Kale Clark, Chance Brewer; and many others.

Survivors include his daughters, Diana Clark, Phyllis Clark, Linda Stortroen; sons, Kirk and Rex Clark; 17 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
