Obituary for Harold Martin McCaskey

Harold Martin McCaskey passed away at age 94 on June 8, 2017 in his home in Lander, Wyoming surrounded by his granddaughters. A graveside service for Harold was held on June 14, 2017. A memorial service will be held at the Museum of the American West on July 9, 2017 at 2:00 pm. The family will provide a BBQ lunch. A Lander native, Harold was born on April 6, 1923 to Arl and Elvira McCaskey. After having graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School he immediately attended the University of Wyoming and graduated in 1947 with a degree in general engineering with a chemical engineering option. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1949 he received a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan. Harold spent his career in South America, Iran, the North Sea, Africa, Louisiana, and Texas as a drilling engineer and superintendent for the Gulf and Chevron Oil Corporations. Harold was very invested in education and provided a scholarship endowment to assist Wyoming natives, who as good students, might need assistance in completing his/her education and achieving their highest aspirations. Harold also established a chemical engineering scholarship in memory of his beloved wife "Bette." In October 2008, the College of Engineering and Applied Science re-dedicated the Harold and Elizabeth ("Bette") McCaskey Seminar Room in Engineering. The upgrades to the McCaskey Seminar Room (engineering room 1062) were made due to extraordinary support from Harold, who was also responsible for the original room renovation in the 1990's. Harold, also very fond of the Museum of the American West where he attended meetings and remained engaged with the ongoings of the museum contributed to the growth of the project. A memorial fund has been set in his name to continue to assist in meeting the needs of the museum. Memorial funds can be sent to: The Museum of the American West, 1445 W Main St, Lander, WY 82520. His death was preceded by his parents Arl and Elvira McCaskey, first wife, Elizabeth McCaskey, second wife, Elizabeth "Bette" McCaskey, and step daughter Julie Hughes.
